“Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.” Psalm 27:14 (WEB)
Waiting can feel like an empty space between prayer and answer. We may wonder whether anything is changing or whether God has heard us at all. Yet waiting on the Lord does not mean that God is inactive. Even when we cannot see what He is doing, we can trust that His wisdom reaches beyond what we can understand.
What may be happening while you wait
During a season of waiting, God may be preparing circumstances, shaping our character, strengthening our faith, protecting us from moving too soon, or arranging details that remain hidden from us. We may want an immediate answer, but God often uses the time itself to draw us closer to Him. The waiting becomes part of His work in our lives.
Abraham learned to trust God’s timing
Abraham knew what it meant to wait. God called him and promised to make a great nation through him, but Abraham was seventy-five years old when he left Haran, and he was one hundred when Isaac was born. Those years were not easy. Abraham and Sarah had moments of faith, but they also struggled with doubt and tried to move ahead of God’s timing. Their choices brought painful consequences. Still, God remained faithful to the promise He had made.
Abraham’s story reminds us that we cannot force God’s plan into our preferred schedule. It also reminds us that our weakness does not cancel His faithfulness. God continued to guide Abraham, deepen his trust, and fulfill His word in the appointed time.
A twenty-five-year journey
Abraham was seventy-five when he departed Haran and one hundred when Isaac was born. See Genesis 12:4 and Genesis 21:5.
Waiting is a faithful way of living
Waiting on the Lord is not passive. It means continuing to pray, obeying what God has already shown us, and faithfully tending to the responsibilities before us today. It means resisting the urge to rush ahead simply because the way feels slow. As we walk with Christ, He gives us courage for the present and strengthens our hearts for whatever comes next.
You may not yet see the answer for which you have prayed. You may not understand why the path has taken so long. But this season is not beyond God’s care. Stay close to Christ. Let Him shape your heart while you wait, and trust Him with both the timing and the outcome.

Questions for your heart
- Where am I most tempted to move ahead of God because waiting feels difficult?
- How might God be strengthening my faith or shaping my character during this season?
- What faithful step can I take today while leaving the timing and outcome with Him?
Prayer
Waiting Is God’s Activity
Father God, as I wait, give me the patience to know that you are working behind the scenes. Give me the strength and the faith to rely on the work you do, and not depend on me or anything that I can do. Thank you for being my God. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Faithful waiting does not guarantee the particular earthly result we want. Psalm 27:14 promises courage and a strengthened heart as we wait on the Lord. We can trust His character while leaving both the timing and the outcome in His hands.
